Bio
and Training Program
First
a few words about my background.
When
I was in my twenties, after my riding was observed at a show, I was
invited by Dorita Konyot Humphries, noted dressage instructor to study
with her at her facility in Sarasota. I was already scheduled to begin
classes at the University
of Florida Horse Teaching Unit to study for my degree in Horse Management.
However, it is a compliment I shall always cherish.
Before
departing for UF I traveled to Wellington (West Palm Beach) to study
with Linda
Tellington Jones. She was one of the early "horse whisperers".
An accomplished endurance rider, she also employed massage and had an
extensive understanding of equine behavioral motivation.
At
UF I studied under Sandi Lieb, owner of Pennock
Point. Dr. Lieb has a Ph.D. in equine nutrition and has bred many
top quality warmbloods at her Medley Farm. Under her instruction, I
learned to start young horses, teaching them to tie, be handled, lead,
longe, drive, accept the bit and saddle and be backed. Other aspects
of the program included equine anatomy and physiology, hoof trimming
and balancing, breeding, conformation and judging. I was also practicing
Equine Massage - Jack
Meagher's method of Pressure Point muscle injury manipulation and
repair and was able to aid horses at the teaching unit.
During
my studies, I served as a groom for a summer for Kathy
Daily and cliniced again with Dorita Konyot Humphries. I have lessoned
with Bill Woods, the assistant head of the Spanish Riding School and
many other excellent trainers including Carol Ogden Malphurs (eventing).
____________
Training
Program
I
am currently only accepting a few students. Training will begin in September
2010. Students will learn the proper address to the horse, tack and
grooming. They will establish the seat, balance in the saddle both standing
and sitting without reins on the flat and over rails which entails developing
the leg.
Transitions
and departures to flying lead changes and work over fences.
I
follow the principles of Jean Claude Racinet, (Francois Baucher) "Hand
without leg. Leg without hand". And I refer to Racinet's "Another
Horsemanship" frequently.
